British Sign Language Week runs from 16th – 22nd March and we will be sharing content on our social media channels all through the week celebrating British Sign Language (BSL) and below is an overview of what we are up to.
In our first film, Cathy, our BSL Teacher, shares some great reasons for learning BSL during Sign Language Week. Learning can build confidence, improve memory, concentration and problem solving, also help you develop empathy and understanding and boost your career skills. Get started today. Visit our friends at Signature to sign up to an online BSL course for beginners at: signature.org.uk/students/british-sign-language-for-beginners/
Next Roz, our Digital Storytelling Officer shares how learning BSL has helped her communicate with Deaf attendees at one of our Deaf Coffee Mornings that take place once a month in Redhill and Woking. Roz has learnt BSL up to level one and explains how great the feeling is when you can communicate with someone in their preferred language.
We will also be sharing an uplifting moment from one of our Meet Up Catch Up. Reg, a regular attendee to our award-winning Meet Up Catch Ups, inspired by Rose Ayling-Ellis’s TV show Old Hands New Tricks, has been learning BSL with the help from our wonderful teacher and Deaf Community Coordinator, Cathy. Learning to sign isn’t just about communication—it’s about building confidence, making new friends, and finding joy at any age. With Sign Language Week here, there’s no better time to start your own BSL journey.
Finally, we will be sharing some footage of staff from the charity who are busy getting ready to take their sign language level one exam. They were keen to share what they love about BSL and why you too might like to learn.
So, what you are waiting for get signing! signature.org.uk/students/british-sign-language-for-beginners/
