A disabled parking signA new parking system has launched at Royal Surrey County Hospital using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system. This will replace the current parking process, offering a smoother and more convenient experience for visitors.

The ANPR system is barrier-free and works by capturing the registration number of every vehicle as it enters and exits the hospital grounds.

For visitors who need to pay for parking, the system is linked to on-site payment machines, allowing them to pay for their parking when they’re ready to leave, based on the exact amount of time they’ve spent at the hospital.

For visitors who don’t need to pay for parking and/or have a Blue Badge permit, they will need to register their Blue Badge (see details below).

Visitors can drop off and pick up passengers for up to 20 minutes without charge.

Blue Badge users

All Blue Badge holders are entitled to a free parking permit when they register their Blue Badge.

There are two ways to register for a Blue Badge Permit:

  1. Pre-registering for an ongoing Blue Badge permit.

Once you pre-register, you won’t need to reapply every visit. It will be ongoing until the expiry of your Blue Badge.

You will need:

  1. A mobile phone
  2. An email address

Validating your parking permit every time you visit.

Present your Blue Badge or a copy or photo of it, and provide your vehicle registration number at one of the following locations:

  • The parking office next to the main reception, at the main hospital entrance
  • The reception desk at the Royal Surrey Cancer Centre, Level A

You may register your permit either before or after your appointment, but please ensure it is completed before leaving the car park.

If you choose this option, you will need to do this every time you visit.
