Sight for Surrey are introducing a series of webinars called ‘Let’s Talk Tech’. These will be facilitated by our Access Technology Trainer, Gary Eady.  Delivered on the last Wednesday of each month, over Zoom, they will make it possible to find out information about technology specifically designed for people with vision impairments.  All from the comfort of your own home!

The Webinars scheduled for May, June and July 2021 are as follows:

Synapptic, the all-in-one Smartphone App

Wednesday 26 May 2021, between 11:00am and 12:15pm

In the first of our new ‘Let’s Talk Tech’ webinars, Gary will be demonstrating and discussing the popular Smartphone app called Synapptic.  This app provides access to an Android Smartphone or Tablet, by turning the interface into a simple menu structure, with large print, high contrast text, as well as providing spoken feedback.  Synapptic is operated by the use of just one finger and is very easy to learn.  You can be using the majority of the built-in features, including email, text messaging and taking photographs, within just a few hours.

Also in this session, Gary will be available to answer your questions regarding Synapptic and other Smartphone queries.  This webinar is suitable for both existing Synapptic users, as well as those who are thinking of purchasing a Smartphone or Tablet.

Screen Readers, what are they and how do they work?

In the second of our ‘Let’s Talk Tech’ webinars, Gary will be demonstrating and discussing some of the most popular screen reading applications on the market today.  These include JAWS, NVDA and SuperNova, as well as Narrator, the screen reader built-in to Windows 10.  Why not join Gary and find out how a screen reader can help you to read your documents, email messages and web pages?

Also in this session, Gary will be available to answer all of your questions related to screen readers.  This webinar is suitable for both existing screen reader users, as well as those who are thinking about learning how to use one for the first time.

Windows 10 Accessibility Features

In the third of our Let’s Talk Tech webinars, Gary will be demonstrating and discussing some of the Windows 10 Accessibility features designed to help people with vision impairments access their documents, email messages, files and web pages.  Join Gary and find out how to magnify the contents of the screen, change the mouse pointer size and colour and choose from a range of screen colours.

Also in this session, Gary will be available to answer all of your questions related to Windows 10 options for people with vision impairments.  This webinar is suitable for anyone who uses a Windows 10 computer and wants to find out how to make things easier to see!

Joining Requirements

In order to attend any of these webinars, you will require a desktop or laptop computer with a working microphone and web cam.  Alternatively, you can join using a Smartphone or Tablet computer.  Regardless of which device you have, you will also require the Zoom Cloud Meetings application to be installed onto your device.  This will help ensure a smooth and relatively simple process of joining the Webinar.
