Surrey vision charity, Surrey Association for Visual Impairment (SAVI) will formally rebrand as Sight for Surrey at its ‘Pushing the Boundaries’ event on 3 March at The Lightbox (gallery/museum) in Woking.
For almost a century, the charity has worked with adults and young people across the county who have a vision impairment to enable them to live full and independent lives. Specialist services such as rehabilitation and mobility training will still be integral to its work, however with new and exciting projects – such as employment mentoring and children’s recreational activities – now being provided, the charity felt it was time to update its name and brand.
Chief Executive, Bob Hughes, said: “Our new name has been agreed after wide consultation and we feel it fully reflects a modern attitude towards supporting our members who have a vision impairment.
“I am extremely excited about our new-look organisation and our future ongoing plans. Our re-launch event will showcase a variety of individuals and organisations from the vision-impaired community who really are ‘pushing the boundaries’ and whom we hope will inspire our guests. Anyone is welcome to attend and we look forward to showcasing Sight for Surrey.”
Guest speakers include the charity’s recently-appointed Business Ambassador, David Gold, owner of Gold Group International, parent company of Ann Summers and Knickerbox and joint-chairman of West Ham United Football Club; and blind land speed record breaker, Mike Newman, from the Speed of Sight charity.
