This week (1st-7th June) is Volunteers’ Week!

During the week, hundreds of events and celebrations take place across the country, saying thank you to volunteers and recognising their invaluable and diverse contribution to the UK. The campaign was established in 1984 by Volunteering England, which merged with NCVO in 2013. NCVO now leads this UK-wide campaign.

At Sight for Surrey, on Thursday 24th May, we hosted a party for our volunteers to say a big thank you for all of the hard work they put into helping at Sight for Surrey. Lots of our volunteers gathered together to share an afternoon tea, chat to old friends, meet new people and give feedback about their role.

We had such a range of our volunteers attending, from Home Visitors to Drivers, Trustees and Event Helpers! Each person received a hand-written, personal “thank you” card awarded by CEO Bob Hughes. Several staff members wrote “appreciation” slips for particular volunteers, which we displayed at the party and were thereafter given to people to take home, or posted out to the volunteers who could not attend.

A fantastic time was had by all! We hope that this party made our volunteers feel valued, and reminded them how grateful we are for their time, commitment and skills.

“I just wanted to thank everyone at SFS who was involved in the celebration get-together yesterday.  I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon; it was a great opportunity to talk to members of staff who I already know and also those that I don’t know so well. The home-made cakes were magnificent and the whole buffet was lovely. Please do pass on my sincere thanks to everyone who was involved in making yesterday’s celebration so enjoyable.”
