Julie (pictured in the blue top), Kim (pictured in the green top) and Claire, who all work for the charity, were invited to attend as they are the crocheting trio behind Fetcham’s post box toppers that have adorned the post box in central Fetcham opposite Harrington’s over the last year.

Julie, Kim and Claire were asked by the Fetcham Residents Association to create a post box topper for the official opening of the Commemorative Gardens, in honour of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the Coronation of King Charles III.

The trio have crocheted seven post box toppers in Fetcham and love coming up with ideas for new designs that include national eye health week in September and Remembrance Day. The toppers take quite a lot of time to plan and execute. Starting with a chat about an idea, the trio then plan it out on paper, work out who wants to crochet what, and finally putting it all together in the village.

Julie, a Deafblind Assessor for the charity said, “We all felt honoured to be asked to do the topper for the launch and it was lovely to hear what people thought. I was able to teach four people to Deaf fingerspell and deafblind manual fingerspelling, they were all quick learners. It was a great event to be part of and served as a reminder that the charity is part of Fetcham which is why we chose to do this particular post box.”

Julie dusted off the Coronation Crown that had been made previously and then the team crocheted a Queen, complete with handbag and corgi, and King Charles in his finery to add to the overall design. Photos of the post box topper have been circulated by Fetcham resident to friends and family in America, Canada, and Australia.
