DESCRIPTION:Exploring access\, inclusion and support for people in Surrey who are Deaf\, hard of hearing\, blind\, partially sighted and deafblind\n\n\n\nA workshop for professionals in Surrey to gain an overview\, understanding and appreciation of inclusion\, accessibility and independence for and with people who are Deaf\, hard of hearing\, blind\, partially sighted and deafblind. \nWith personal insight into everyday lived experience\, its challenges and opportunities\, you’ll learn about the practical support available\, accessible technology and communications and how we work with adults and children across Surrey. \nThis workshop will inspire and empower you to become a champion for access and inclusion in Surrey\, helping to break down barriers so everyone can embrace an independent life at home\, at work and in our communities. \n\n\n\n\nWith refreshments on arrival\, we will start promptly at 9.30am\, ending by 3.30pm. \nProgramme includes: \n– Vision impairment awareness\, including a ‘sighted guide’ taster \n– Deaf and hard of hearing awareness sessions \n– Understanding combined sight and hearing loss and the deafblind experience \n– Accessible technology\, resources and developments\, including equipment demos \n– Overcoming barriers to access and inclusion discussion \n– The work of Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey \n– Light lunch and refreshments. \n\n\n\n\nPrevious attendees said: \n“It was a great day\, I really enjoyed it.”\n“Interesting variety of practical as well as informative.”\n“Each session was different and the speakers were brilliant.”\n“Enjoyable and inclusive training – I could not think of anything that could be improved.”
