We are delighted to be expanding our specialist sensory services and welcome applicants for the new role of Deaf Support Worker.  The role combines supporting isolated and lonely Deaf/deaf people with exploring and developing this new service – to recruit volunteers and befrienders to work with deaf people who are experiencing isolation.  This is a new service and we have secured funding for this project for 2 years

We are Sight for Surrey – an ambitious charity offering a lifetime of support to people who are blind or partially sighted, Deaf/deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing.  Our mission is to support people to overcome their day-to-day challenges, achieve their potential and lead an independent life.

We are seeking an enthusiastic person who has experience in providing support in a range of communication methods, for example Sign Supported English (SSE) and British Sign Language (BSL)

The post holder will be working in people’s own homes as well as in the wider community.

The post is based in our Specialist Social Work Team and will work closely with colleagues in other internal departments for example our Community and Engagement Teams.

Commitment to person centred working, excellent communication skills, the ability to work flexibly, as part of a team, high level signing skills, BSL, collaborate effectively with others, and enthusiastic ‘can do’ approach are all essential. The post will involve travelling countywide with some travel to our Head Office in Fetcham. Job share considered.

In view of our Social Care activities, our aim is to have a fully vaccinated workforce, and we encourage and support our workers to protect themselves with available vaccinations.
