DESCRIPTION:Breaking Down Barriers Workshop is a one day course for professionals in Surrey to gain an overview\, understanding and appreciation of inclusion\, accessibility and independence for and with people who are Deaf\, hard of hearing\, blind\, partially sighted\, deafblind. \nWith personal insight into everyday lived experience\, its challenges and opportunities\, you’ll learn about the practical support available\, accessible technology and communications and how we work with adults and children across Surrey. \nThis workshop will inspire and empower you to become a champion for access and inclusion in Surrey\, helping to break down the barriers so everyone can embrace an independent life at home\, at work and in our communities. \nProgramme includes: \n\nVision impairment awareness\, including ‘sighted guide’ taster\nDeaf and hard of hearing awareness taster\nUnderstanding combined sight and hearing loss and the deafblind experience\nAccessible technology\, resources and developments\, including equipment demos\nOvercoming barriers to access and inclusion discussion\nThe work of Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey and connections with Surrey County Council\nLight lunch and refreshments.\n\nPrevious attendees said: \n“It was helpful to take part in practical examples of what it’s like to have a vision impairment. It was also helpful to see how much Assistive Tech can help too.” \n“It was brilliant. DESCRIPTION:Come and get into the spirit of Christmas and join us at the New Egham Singers Christmas Carol Concert on Saturday 6th December from 7.30pm at St. John’s Church\, Manor Road\, Egham\, raising funds to support people in Surrey who are Deaf\, hard of hearing\, blind\, partially sighted and deafblind. \nCome and listen to the choir sing classic Christmas carols plus ‘I’ll Be Home for Christmas’ by Bing Crosby\, ‘That’s Christmas to Me’\, originally performed by the Pentatonix\, and everyone’s favourite; the theme song from the film Elf! \nDrinks and refreshments will be served during the interval and a cracking Christmas fundraiser will be held on the night with all proceeds going to Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey. \n

Sessions are delivered by Gary Eady\, Access Technology Trainer and Keith Dear\, AI Trialblazer from Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey. \nIn this session\, Gary and Keith\, will discuss and demonstrate the range of accessibility features built-in to both Apple iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Android devices. These include screen reading and magnification options\, Siri (Apple) and Gemini (Android) personal assistants.
